Carpooling became a well-known and a neat experience in the days of the blockade. Giving or getting a free ride became a norm. The same idea was adopted to be made into a new initiative called Tootle, which is an easy way to maneuver your path around Kathmandu.
Kathmandu and its mode of transportation are limited to traditional public vehicles, overcrowded buses, and heavy traffic. With our limited mobility but the need to get somewhere fast, we often fall into a dilemma. To get out of such a situation, renting a taxi is almost close to impossible on every single day. Don’t worry folks; hope has been lightened with the service of Tootle.
Get Tootle; get a ride in the valley
Tootle is designed to serve the people in the valley to get somewhere easy, by means of a bike or a scooter ride. This service is not for free, but the price is actually minimal when compared to taxi fares. Tootle rides can be booked from 8 am to 8 pm currently.
The Tootle app can be found in the Google Play. iOS users will need to wait around for little longer. Download the Tootle and Tootle Partner apps and you are good to go. If you need the service, the Tootle app is sufficient. If you want to earn some money by offering a ride to someone, you will need to download the Tootle Partner app, upload the photocopy of your license and become a member.

How does it work in Kathmandu?
Open the Tootle app and login with the details. Select the pickup and destination location and tap on “book”. The shortest route for the ride will be calculated by the app, and the fare will be calculated. The mode of payment can be done via Tootle balance or via cash. Simply select the time of departure at least 15/30 or 60 minutes earlier. After confirming, you will get a unique ride code and notification once the Partner accepts the invitation. As fast as possible, you ride will start. After reaching the destination, give the ride code to the Partner, and the team will be notified.
Tootle balance and how to get it?
For a startup, Tootle balance worth 500 rupees has been assigned for every sign-up. You can sue the balance to book the rides. For top up, use eSewa or a Tootle Voucher.

Tootle Balance gained by the Tootle Partner?
Tootle balance of 200 rupees is assigned for free for a new partner. After accepting Tootle booking, and on every successful tootling, increments in your balance will be notified. Transfer the topped up balance to e-Sewa or use it as you need.
Can you trust a stranger to become a companion for a bike ride? Be cautious as there might be unruly accidents or situations. Also, there might be cases when someone pranks on you by accepting the book request. Alternatives should be considered in this situation too. Becoming a Tootle Partner is not an easy thing too. It requires constant data and battery drainage as you will need to be updated about new toot requests.
However, keeping the downsides aside, it can surely be said that this initiative is surely a good one, and requires support from everyone. The app is user-friendly and worth giving a try. Happy Tootling!!
